President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered police to ensure unroadworthy vehicles are not operated to reduce the number of accidents.
Uhuru issued the order on Saturday after at least 10 people were killed in an accident at Kiengu on Maua-Farm-Kinna-Garbatulla road.
A lorry lost control and rammed into four vehicles, and then rolled several times in the Friday accident.
"My thoughts and prayers are with the families, relatives and friends of those who perished," the President said in a statement.
"May the Almighty God give them strength and grace to bear the tragic loss."
He wished those who were injured quick recovery. Tony Mwanyakatasi, Maua Methodist Hospital Medical superintendent, said 30 people were injured and that the number of fatalities was likely to go up.
In December last year, 40 people were killed in a tanker explosion along Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
Witness James Kimani said there were no signs to warn motorists of speed bumps that had just been erected.
The National Transport and Safety Authority has taken several measures to reduce the number of accidents on Kenya's roads.
They include the erection of speed bumps and crackdowns on unroadworthy vehicles and motorists who do not observe traffic rules.
